Third grade students recently read a story called, Arrow and Officer Mike.  As a culminating activity, K-9 DOGS–East Search and Rescue Team visited Waverly Yowell.  A Waverly parent, Jessica Burnside, came with her Black lab, Puck.  Two other handlers joined her with their dogs: Tess the Standard poodle and Joy a Yellow lab.  The presenters discussed how they trained and rewarded the dogs.  Students had the opportunity to participate in a search and rescue demonstration while another dog demonstrated finding clues.  More importantly students were given two important pieces of advice:  Establish a code word with parents and stay in one place if you are lost.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration and were eager to ask questions and tell stories.k-9-presentation-1
